Lung Care Foundation, in partnership with the Agriculture Department, Amritsar, organized a Block-Level Stubble Burning Awareness Camp at a block in the district – Rayya to promote sustainable farming practices and encourage the adoption of alternatives to stubble burning. The programme aimed to raise awareness about the harmful health and environmental impacts of crop residue burning. More than 60 farmers, along with local sarpanches, pradhans, and agriculture officials, participated in the event. Experts from the Agriculture Department shared valuable information on crop residue management, the use of machinery such as the Happy Seeder and Super Seeder, government subsidy schemes, and alternative uses of stubble, including composting, bioenergy, and mushroom cultivation. Dr. Sonali Vohra highlighted the serious health effects of air pollution caused by stubble burning emphasizing the importance of protecting people of all ages. A Nukkad Natak further reinforced the message, inspiring participants to adopt cleaner agricultural practices and contribute towards healthier communities and improved air quality.
