King George’s Medical University (KGMU) and KK Hospital, Lucknow

On May 20, 2025, capacity-building workshops were conducted in Lucknow at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) and KK Hospital to raise awareness among healthcare professionals, nursing students, and paramedical students about the health impacts of air pollution. The workshops aimed to strengthen the role of healthcare workers as clean air advocates in fostering healthier communities with cleaner air.

At both venues, Dr. Surya Kant highlighted the strong association between air pollution and diseases such as tuberculosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia, and lung cancer. He emphasized that children and pregnant women are particularly vulnerable and underscored the serious risks posed by indoor air pollution and passive smoking. Participants were encouraged to identify indoor pollution sources and adopt lung-friendly habits such as walking and cycling.

Dr. Rajiv Khurana focused on everyday activities contributing to air pollution, including the burning of camphor and single-use plastics. He promoted sustainable practices such as using public transport, minimizing harmful household habits, and maintaining indoor plants to improve air quality. Both speakers urged participants to become “Vayu Mitras” and advocate for clean air in their communities.
