District Wide Farmers’ Air Pollution and Stubble-Burning Awareness Campaign 2025
Amritsar
August - November, 2025
8 Block-Level Locations + District-Level Farmers Camp (Dana Mandi, Jandiala Guru)

The District Wide Farmers’ Air Pollution and Stubble Burning Awareness Campaign 2025 was implemented across Amritsar district from August to November 2025 under the Saanjhi Hawa Te Sehat initiative. The programme aimed to address the serious health impacts of stubble burning through eight block level awareness and capacity building campaigns. Farmers, sarpanches, and panchayat leaders were actively engaged to promote stubble burning free villages and to strengthen understanding of sustainable crop residue management practices.

A series of in-person block level and district-level sessions were conducted to sensitise farmers to the respiratory, cardiac, and neurological health risks associated with stubble smoke. Participants received information on in-situ residue management techniques, government machinery subsidy schemes, and technical support available through the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK). The sessions also emphasised the long term environmental, economic, and soil health benefits of avoiding residue burning and adopting eco-friendly alternatives.

The initiative brought together the District Administration, SDMs of Ajnala, Majitha, and Rayya, Agriculture Department officials, KVK experts, and Panchayat leaders, ensuring strong multi sector collaboration. Dr. Sonali Vohra led block level health advocacy sessions, while Dr. Rajiv Khurana reinforced these messages during the district level mega event.

Overall, more than 550 farmers participated in block level activities, and 1,500 to 2,000 farmers attended the district level culmination, reflecting growing readiness to adopt sustainable practices and strong community momentum for clean air across Amritsar district.
