On October 13, 2024, Doctors for Clean Air Climate Action (DFCA) participated in the Basics from the Masters conference in Jalandhar, Punjab, hosted by the Laparoscopic Surgery Foundation. Led by Dr. PS Bakhshi, DFCA used this platform to emphasize the urgent health impacts of air pollution. Over 150 doctors from South Asia, the UK, and Egypt attended, with Dr. Rajiv Khurana leading a session on air pollution’s health effects. DFCA set up interactive stalls to engage doctors with the issue and promote its initiatives across India. They distributed posters highlighting air pollution’s impact on respiratory and cardiovascular health, encouraging doctors to discuss it with their patients. This led to around 50 doctors joining DFCA’s network, furthering its advocacy. The event also facilitated cross-border collaboration, expanding DFCA’s influence in the Global South. DFCA plans to follow up with new members, strengthen regional partnerships, and explore collaborative research to drive policy changes and continue addressing air pollution’s health effects.
