The “Vayu Mitra Campaign to Combat Health Hazards of Air Pollution” was organized at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Auditorium, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow, under the Lucknow Forum for Clean Air. The program aimed to create awareness about the harmful effects of air pollution and encourage people to work together for clean air.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Surya Kant, Professor and Head of the Department of Respiratory Medicine at King George’s Medical University and National Core Committee Member of Doctors for Clean Air and Climate Action. He recently received the PHSS (Professor H.S.Srivastava) Foundation Award for Science Communication. He explained that air pollution harms not only the lungs but the entire body. It can cause early aging and increase the risk of diseases like COPD, lung cancer, pneumonia, tuberculosis, heart disease, and brain-related disorders.
He said that clean air is a basic right of every person. He encouraged doctors, students, and the public to live in an eco-friendly way, reduce pollution, and become ‘Vayu Mitras’ to spread awareness and support the clean air movement.
